At Confidence Flight Training, our goal is to make pilots comfortable being “uncomfortable .” The number one killer of pilots continues to be LOC or loss of control. An emphasis on stick and rudder skills is vital to make pilots more confident and more capable in their flying experience.
Attention CFIs
We consider CFIs to be the tip of the flight training spear. Confidence flight training offers every CFI, a free introductory one hour flight in the Super Decathlon.
*CFIs receive a $50 referral fee for every new client they send our way
*CFIs receive a 10% discount on the aircraft on any training
John Wise is Confidence Flight training’s Chief Flight instructor and President. He has been flying for more than 55 years. In February of 2023 John received the Wright Brothers Award , the highest honor the FAA can bestow on a civilian aviator. John took his first flight at the age of 14 in a 1946 Aeronca Champ from his father’s grass strip dubbed the “Flying Moo“ located on Bovine Palace farms, a large dairy farm in north central Ohio. He soloed on December 11,1971, and joined the United States Air Force where he served as an air traffic controller for three years at Wright Patterson Air Force base near Dayton,OH. John has been flying in the central Oklahoma area since the mid 1980s and has served as a certified Flight Instructor since 2017. He has logged more than 3500 Flight hours, with 2500 of those hours engaged in teaching students on all matters and in dozens of different aircraft. John also serves as a ferry pilot making numerous trips around the country. At this point in his flying career he has flown almost every production, single engine aircraft ever made, and almost all post war tailwheel aircraft. His first aerobatic flight lesson was taken in 1988 and to this day is what he enjoys most. John currently owns a 1979 Bellanca Decathlon in which he teaches advanced stick and rudder training ,spin training and entry level aerobatics. He has been married for 43 years to his wonderful wife, Diane and has two sons and three grandsons.
The Bellanca Decathlon is considered by most to be the best aircraft to teach stick and rudder skills as well as entry-level aerobatics . It features a Lycoming IO 360 180 hp power plant with fully inverted fuel and oil system. The aircraft has been around for decades and has a great reputation for teaching students of all types in these vital skills. We affectionately call her “Spinderella”.
